Outing To Cardiff Castle and Waterfront

Outing To Cardiff Castle and Waterfront – Saturday 18th July 2015

We left Kingswood at 8.30am and arrived at the Castle approx 9.45am.

Our party was split into two groups of twenty-three , the first group were on the ten past ten tour which was lead by a Guide, with the second group starting their guided tour at twenty past ten . Both groups really enjoyed the Castle with so many beautiful wall designs and paintings all created by William Burgess, which continued the theme in Knightshayes Court, our previous outing.

A buffet lunch was taken at 12.00pm in the cafe, with members remarking on the quality of the food. Our boat trip to the waterfront left at 2.30pm with a commentary by a member of the crew which was enjoyed by all . The rest of the day members visited various places of interest but unfortunately the Norwegian Church was closed for a private function. Finally I would like to thank staff at the castle and on the boat trip for helping with some of our elderly members on the various awkward stairs in the castle and on the boat.

With the weather being fine, our time at the waterfront was really enjoyable, being such a popular place with the citizens of Cardiff. Arriving home every member remarked what a great day out it had been. As chairman, on behalf of the Kingswood History Society, I must thank Quartet Community Foundation for making this outing possible.
