Memories came flooding back as Clive presented two films from the Bristol Archive. First was The Festival of Britain from 1951, the second from the 1960s narrated by Sir Michael Redgrave called Bristol Fashion.

Each film was accompanied by Pearl and Dean adverts for intermission ice creams (Lyons Maid), popcorn (Butterkist) and drinks (Kia Ora). There were further adverts which included one for Babysham.

It was interesting to see the opening of the 806-seat ABC New Bristol Centre cinema in 1966 by the Lord Mayor. The first film showing was Doctor Zhivago.

Indeed, we all joined in to sing the old ABC Minors song with which most were familiar.

I heard many comments as to how interesting they found these old films. A great night had by all.

This was the last talk for 2026 which completes another successful year for the Society.
